EVA CASSIDY

Welcome to the Eva Cassidy Web Site, a resource for those seeking information about the late singer Eva Cassidy.  Eva died in 1996, but today her soul-stirring voice is reaching people all over the world.

For some fans, the pleasure of listening is enough. Others want to know more: "Who was this remarkable singer? Why haven't we heard of her before?  Are there more albums?" This web page can be your gateway.

Note: This site is not part of any commercial operation such as a record company or CD store; it is strictly a personal endeavor. Nor is it the "official web site" about Eva Cassidy; Eva herself is not here to award that distinction to any web s.

>From the album "Time After Time"

There are only a few bars to this because it is repetitive throughout
the song. There are variations for each verse and the piano break
but basically its the same right through.
You can use a little imagination and add your own touch for each verse.

Sufjan Stevens

Casimir Pulaski Day:

They Are Neigbours! They Have Come Back From The Dead! Ahhhhh’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqboX7qyIbw&hd=1

Or, Round Of Applause For Your Stepmother!’.

Black is the colour

This folk song, about a girl whose lover has failed to return, found its way to the Southern Appalachians.

Black is the colour of my true love's hair.

His face is like some rosy fair,

The prettiest face and the neatest hands,

I love the ground whereon he stands.

I love my love and well he knows

I love the ground whereon he goes

If you no more on earth I see,

I can't serve you as you have me.

The winter's passed and the leaves are green

The time is passed that we have seen,

But still I hope the time will come

When you and I shall be as one.

I go to the Clyde for to mourn and weep,

But satisfied I never could sleep,

I'll write to you a few short lines

I'll suffer death ten thousand times.

So fare you well, my own true love

The time has passed, but I wish you well.

But still I hope the time will come

When you and I will be as one.

I love my love and well he knows

I love the ground whereon he goes,

The prettiest face, the neatest hands

I love the ground whereon he stands.

She’s like the swallow

sheet music

his is a Canadian tune which originated in the coast of eastern Canada. There are English variations, but the tune may have originated in Newfoundland.

She's like the swallow that flies so high,
She's like the river that never runs dry.
She's like the sunshine on the lee shore,
She loves her love but she'll love no more.

'Twas down in the meadow this fair maid bent
A-picking the primrose just as she went.
The more she picked and the more she pulled,
Until she gathered her apron full.

She climbed on yonder hill above
To give a rose unto her love.
She gave him one, she gave him three
She gave her heart for company.

And as they sat on yonder hill
His heart grew hard, so harder still.
He has two hearts instead of one.
She says, "Young man, what have you done?"

"How foolish, foolish you must be
To think I love no one but thee.
The world's not made for one alone,
I take delight in everyone."

She took her roses and made a bed,
A stony pillow for her head.
She lay her down, no more did say,
But let her roses fade away.

She's like the swallow that flies so high,
She's like the river that never runs dry,
She's like the sunshine on the lee shore,
She loves her love but she'll love no more.

Juliet says hey it's Romeo, you nearly gave me a heart attack
        F                         C Dm                          C Bb
He's underneath the window, she's singing hey la my boyfriends back
        C                           Bb  C                        F
you shouldn't come around here singing up to people like that
         Bb                        C
Anyway, what you gonna do about it?

Chorus I:
        F      C             Dm C             Bb
Juliet the dice was loaded from the start
        F      C             Dm C             Bb
And I bet, and you exploded in my heart.
        F      C             Dm              Bb
And I forget, I forget, the movie song
        Gm                                  F        Bb    C     Dm  C  F
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong  Juliet?

Verse II:
Come up on different streets, they both the streets of shame
Both dirty both mean, yes and even and dream was just the same
And I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real.
How can you look at me as if I was just another part of your deal

Well you can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold.
you can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin yeah
Now you just say oh Romeo yeah, I used to have a scene with him.

Chorus II:
Juliet when we made love you used to cry
you said I love you like the stars above I'll love you till I die
There's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong Juliet?

Verse III:
I can't do the talk, like they talk on the tv
I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be.
I can't do anything, but I'd do anything for you.
I cant't do anything but be in love with you.

And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All I do is keep the beat and bad company.
All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet I'd do the stars with you anytime.

Repeat Chorus II:

Verse IV:
A love struck Romeo, sings the streets a serenade.
Now he's laying everymody low, with a love song that he made.
Finds a convenient street light, steps out of the shade

VíSUR VATNSENDA-RóSU

Augun mín og augun þín
ó þá fögru steina
mitt var þitt og þitt var mitt
þú veist hvað ég meina

Langt er síðan sá ég hann
sannlega fríður var hann
allt sem prýða má einn mann
mest af lýðum bar hann

þig ég trega manna mest
mædda af tára flóði
ó að við hefðum aldrei sést
elsku vinurinn góði

SONGS OF ROSE FROM VATNSENDA

My eyes and your eyes
oh those beautiful stones
mine was yours and yours was mine
you know what I mean

Long is since I saw him
truly fair he was
all that may adorn a man
most of the people carried him

You I long for most of all
heavy with the flood of tears
oh that I never had seen you
dear beloved friend
